About the Artist

Padraig hails from beautiful Connemara in County Galway. He has had  a great interest in natural history since childhood particularly in birds. His childhood was spent searching for nests ,fishing the local streams and trying to catch dragonflies! A gift of a book called British Birds beautifully illustrated by Ray Harris Ching instilled in him an interest in drawing and he copied many of the illustrations in that book.

Unfortunately secondary school did not give him an opportunity to study art and after finishing the five years he choose primary school teaching over his other career  interest which was  ornithology.

Padraig has been teaching for twenty years, most of that time spent in Navan, Co. Meath. Several visits to New Zealand and Australia to paint and fish since finishing college made him determined to pursue his artistic interest  on a more permanent basis some day. He decided to take that opportunity in Christmas 2010. One year on and he has no regrets despite the long hours and challenging work.

Padraig has painted a wide range of subjects in the past year. He has completed a wide range of commissions to date. Commissions can be challenging and he works hard on understanding his clients exact wishes. A happy client is a great reward for all the hard work.

He paints in watercolour and also enjoys pencil drawings. Watercolour offers a softness which appeals to him and is the perfect medium for the west of Ireland`s wet atmosphere ! He is excited about where his painting journey will lead him!

  1. Hi Padriag, we had lost contact with you & wondered what you were up to now.
We now live out on our land which now grows grapes, olives & fruit trees near Mapua. Still lots of birds here.
Lovely to see you work and to see that you are now able to follow your dream.
